Facebook in Europe

By June 2012, Europe commanded 21.6 percent of total users of Facebook in the world. Facebook is now the number one social network in most, if not all of the European countries. Europe has seen a great social and business transformation because of this social network. To be a little bit specific, the emergence of this social site where people can interact globally in the confinements of their homes or office is a major breakthrough. In Europe, Facebook has found a wide range of uses related to advertisements.

Controversy

Europe was one of the first continents to use this site. In fact, Facebook’s international headquarters are located in Ireland. The site has done the European population much good, but that has not protected it from a few negative feedbacks. The biggest concern with the public is the Facebook security and privacy policy that they feel has been violated. This has lead to the emergence of the Europe vs. Facebook group of activists that is accusing the site of the violation of the Europe’s Data Protection Laws.

The group wages a fight against Facebook to challenge the Irish Data Protection Authority’s on the complaints about privacy in court. It alleges that the authorities do not decide in the favor of the users as is in many cases, but rather in Facebook’s favor. It has listed 22 complaints and intends to raise up to three hundred thousand Euros to fund the legal action against Facebook.

Approximate number of users

We can say that Facebook in Europe enjoys uncontested popularity thanks to its business features, user friendliness and other very friendly features. UK leads with the highest number of users, more than 30 million while Vatican is last with just about more than 20 users. The others follow in between these numbers.
